Pathfinder Stories: Melissa
What do you care most about? I care the most about my grades because good grades will increase my chances of getting accepted into medical school.
Who has most influenced your life? My parents. They are addicted to meth. I just look at their behavior and decisions and literally do the opposite. So far so good.
Describe your relationship to money: Vicious. I never have enough money.
How do you get what you want? I usually have to work for it.
What do you buy or pay for that you could (and maybe should) live without? Gasoline fuel. Burning hydrocarbons is terrible on the environment. Many people don’t realize that we only have one earth and we don’t get another one. I’m going to save up to buy a diesel car that converts waste oil into biofuel and doesn’t release harmful nitrous oxide emissions.
What’s the best advice anyone’s ever given you? You can do it! (The Internet supplied me with that advice.)
When I need advice I… Google it.
The last vacation I took... was never. I have never been on vacation because I live below the poverty line.
I feel most at home… when I am at home.
Who do you enjoy spending time with the most? No one. I don’t have friends that share the same values.
People are… rude, unexplainable, selfish and rarely extraordinary.
The last thing I bought was: Brake pads, rotors and an air filter. I still haven’t put them on yet.
What do you want in life that you can afford? A nice breakfast.
What do you want in life that you can’t afford? A 2008 or newer Range Rover with a heated steering wheel.
My earliest memory about money was… When I was 12 my aunt used to tell me if I wanted something I had to get a job.
How much debt do you have? I have $14,000 worth of student loans; $3,600 left to pay on my car before I own it. And I owe a friend about $1,000.
How do you feel about the debt you have? It doesn’t bother me. I’ll probably die with debt from going to medical school.
What financial rules or recommendations seem like sound advice to you? Never ever get a credit card because it doesn’t supplement your income; it takes away from it.
What’s the biggest compliment someone can pay you? Buying my dream car for me.
What vehicle do you own? I don’t "own" a vehicle; the bank does. But my VW Beetle hauled all the bricks to make a patio and nearly all the furniture and plants in my house.
Cash, credit or debit card? Debit card.
Stability or adventure? Stability.
Pop star or Nobel prizewinner?
Pop star: They have more influence over people.
Favorite meal: Lobster.
Favorite possession: My Macbook Air.
What one thing defines you: School.
What has no one ever asked you that you wish they would ask? What color Range Rover do you want?
So, what color Range Rover do you want? Hmmm. Forest green or white. I've seen them both in those colors and they both look really nice.
