How Will Living Within My Means Make a Difference Long Term?

To get through the economic crisis, you may likely tighten the financial screws or stop the leaking. You may eat inexpensive meals at home, carpool, sell things you don’t need, find ways to increase income and put a moratorium on buying anything new for a while. Every expense you could cut, you did or will.

If the crisis you were expecting didn't happen or you are getting back to normal, keep that mindset for the most part. Try living within—or below—your means. (Living below one's mean is what financially successful people do everyday, every week, every month and every year. It’s how most successful people live their dreams.)

Simply don’t spend all the money you make in one week. Instead, every month commit to putting some money into a savings account before you spend it on anything else.

Perhaps for the first time in your life, you’ll be able to pay your bills with what you earn, not go further into debt, and see your savings slowly growing. You’ll say to yourself, “I have the money to buy that, but I don’t need it and I’d rather save the money for my future.” That’s personal power to create the future you want and deserve.
